An artist-facing analytics surface that teaches instead of just reports.
11 million creators use Spotify for Artists. Most of them aren't analysts — they're songwriters, producers, and small-label managers who need to understand where their audience is and what to do next. I led the redesign of the artist studio around two questions: who's listening? and what should I release next?
Artists Studio had great data — streams, saves, playlist adds, demographics — and no narrative. A DIY artist logging in for the first time saw a wall of charts and bounced. Enterprise labels used the API; the actual creators got lost.
The rebrief: stop teaching artists to read analytics, start telling them what the analytics mean.
Approach
Insight strip at the top of every pageThree natural-language insight cards: "Your top city changed this week," "Stream count is up 44% on this song." Each is clickable, each opens the underlying chart.
Audience page as identityRebuilt "Audience" to lead with listener demographics and top cities on a map. Artists started describing their own fanbase using our vocabulary.
Playlist pitching flowStreamlined the "submit to editorial" flow from 7 screens to 3. Inline eligibility checks, pre-populated context, timeline visibility.
Release planning calendarA calendar showing past and upcoming releases with editorial windows, promo milestones, and a "best day to release" suggestion based on your genre.
Mobile-first80% of artists log in on their phone. Rebuilt the entire experience mobile-first — desktop is the enhancement.
